Tech N9ne has been one of my favorite artists since I was about 15 years old and when I was contacted by Strange Music to shoot coverage of their show at The Fillmore Auditorium I knew it was my chance to really show what I was capable of

Working with the artists
This tour had mainly recording artists from Strange Music. Tech N9ne, Krizz Kaliko, Mayday, UBI of Ces Cru, Mackenzie Nicole, and another artist by the name of DAX. All of which who were really nice and easy to work with. Being from Denver, I've personally been to countless Strange Music shows, and to be able to work with them directly was quite the experience. Realistically these guys are just regular people, they made jokes, talked with people during the meet and greet, signed every piece of merchandise fans brought, followed a strict set of rules (More about that here) and killed the stage.
Let's talk about Gear.
I recently purchased a Canon C200 along with the Original Ronin and I was eager to test the RAW capability. Was shooting RAW overkill? Maybe, in some peoples eyes. Let me be the first to tell you that I was NOT concerned about the amount of data, or heavy workflow that comes when working in RAW. I also brought my handy Tokina 16-28 F2.8 for wide shots and the amazing Canon 70-200mm Markiii F2.8 for those crisp zoom shots. I knew from other videos that boosting my ISO past 500 was going to present a lot of noise so I made best with what I had and avoided those shadow areas. It really did pay off. The flexibility I had with 12 bit 4.4.4. really allowed me to bend and shape the image I was looking for.
What was my Plan of Attack?
It was a 2 night event and I knew that I had to get as many angles as I could, so my plan was to run the gimbal most of the time on the first night and run handheld the second. That's exactly what I did and it worked out in my favor.
Making it happen
Working with the artists at Strange Music was a dream come true and nothing short of honest hard work. Running with a heavy gimbal and following their schedule without accidentally tripping on stage in front of thousands of people was a rush for sure. After I delivered the footage, I was given the opportunity to create my own "Recap" of the footage and it was shared by Tech N9ne himself. Rumor has it that they will be back out in Colorado Mid-October. I wonder if I'll get a call back?? I can only hope.
